Our Bargaining Units
L.E.E.B.A. operates three different bargaining units in New York City. They include Environmental Protection Police Officers, Sanitation Enforcement Agents, and D.O.T Highway and Sewer Inspectors.
NYC Department of Environmental Protection Police Officers
The New York City Department of Environmental Protection Police, also known as DEP Police, and formerly known as the Bureau of Water Supply Police and the Aqueduct Police, is a law enforcement agency in New York City. Their duties are to protect and preserve the New York City water supply system, the nation’s largest single source water supply.
DSNY Sanitation Enforcement Agents and Associate Sanitation Enforcement Agents
Sanitation Enforcement Agents are law enforcement agents who enforce certain laws, rules, and regulations of the New York City Health and Administrative Codes, New York State, including Public Health Law (Canine Waste), New York State Vehicle and Traffic Laws, and New York City Traffic Regulations. They prepare and issue summonses for certain violations thereof and inspect commercial and residential establishments, streets, and sidewalks; perform security duty at Department of Sanitation facilities, and direct and control traffic around Department of Sanitation operations. In addition, they assist in the preparation of cases relating to summonses issued for trial in court or before an Administrative Tribunal.
NYC Department of Transportation - Highway and Sewer Inspectors
Highway and sewer inspectors perform technical work in the inspection of construction, repair, and maintenance of roads, sewers, pavements, sidewalks, and appurtenances. They inspect the grading, paving, and repaving of streets; maintenance, repair, and construction of sewers and appurtenances; house sewer connections, retaining walls, streets, and street openings; construction and repair of water, sewer, and utility manholes and street sidewalks; and private property. In addition, in testing laboratories for asphalt or concrete plants, they check all materials used as to quality and grade; witness the making of concrete and other test cylinders; check the size of street openings and the satisfactory restoration of pavement or sidewalks; investigate complaints and reports on findings of mechanical equipment and material used; may be required to issue a summons and appear as a witness in court.
